WILSON BRAND LANGUAGE SKETCHES
For this quick design language sketching exercise I selected three interesting Wilson basketballs that are currently available online. I created a sub brand for each ball by adding a backpack and pump to be sold as a set. This was a good branding exercise because it can be difficult to create cohesion across products made with different materials and processes such as these.
White Men Can’t Jump
The backpack and pump design carry over the graffiti pattern shown in the ball lettering. The overall aesthetic is supposed to feel very 90’s by the products design and color blocking. The backpack is intentionally designed to look more like a school bag than an athletic bag to help make your opponents think “who is that nerd” when you walk onto the court.
FIBA 3X3
The functional grip of the wave pattern is carried over to the touch points on the pump. It is also shown as an aesthetic detail on the front pocket of the backpack. The roll top backpack design was selected to appeal to a fashion forward international market.
Luminous
An iridescent infinity line is introduced as a branding element to replicate the channels that run through the ball. This branding element shows up in the parting lines of the bag and pump. Additionally, a light shimmer would be printed onto the bag and a gloss texture added to the pump.
